Founded by current science teacher Mr. Larry “LaPret” Pretlow II, Project Combustion is a curriculum-based academic enrichment club aligned with NGSS standards and the Amplify Science program. While independently operated and not sponsored by any school district, the club functions within school guidelines and with verified parental consent.
Project Combustion is both a learning community and an enrichment-based instructional tool. It enhances science instruction by reinforcing key concepts through real-world applications, collaborative exploration, and student-led initiatives. As an instructional tool, it supports differentiated learning during and beyond class time.
We proudly operate as a teacher-founded, student-led enrichment program dedicated to empowering middle schoolers to lead, explore, and grow as young scientists. Whether implemented during instruction, tutoring, or club time, Project Combustion is designed to elevate student voice, curiosity, and confidence. Dual Language learners receive additional support from peer mentors—students who are a grade level ahead and trained to guide their younger peers through bilingual collaboration and hands-on learning.
